What is Designerd?

Introduction
Designerd is a fun and intuitive educational application that helps students #discoverdesign. With an emphasis on making learning fun, the app uses gamification and provides users a lens into different streams of design. My team consisted of one other member. Designerd was honoured with the top score amongst 655 other teams!

The Adobe Creative Jam series is a competition where teams put their creative skills to the test using Adobe XD. All within a week hours, teams ideate, design, and prototype a solution in response to a given problem. Our project, Designerd scored 99.5/100 out of 655 submissions across the US, UK, and Canada!

What might be some challenges high school students face when learning about design as a career?

Design Brief

Design a tablet app to provide a safe way for high school students (ages 13+) to #DiscoverDesign.

This app should encourage students to:
• Discover what design is and how they interact with it every day
• See the impact of good or bad design
• Explore jobs/careers in design
• Start their own career in design

Trust & Guidance

With shorter attention spans, teens are more likely to leave the app in disinterest if their attention isn't captured.

Capture their Attention

With overwhelming and vague guidance about design on the internet, it is important to make Designerd a one-stop design location

Keep them Engaged

Through gamification, the user group can be kept engaged and interested to learn about all that the app has to offer.

Brainstorming

We then brainstormed and classified the ideas into an Impact x Feasibility matrix to understand which ideas to prioritize

Bringing ideas to life

Following this, we brainstormed and started making lo-fi wireframes and upon initial summative evaluation, moved on to creating mid-fi wireframes.

Creating a Design System

After a lot of thought about what would be engaging, captivating and inviting for teens, a design system was created. This was the single source of truth for the visual design of Designerd.
